ARTISTIC SPECTACLE: Lara Tiamiyu (La' Royal Studios) / Face of Broadwayz of the week

This week on our ‘Artistic Spectacle’ is Lara Tiamiyu who seems to have inner passion for what she's doing at the moment.
Lara Tiamiyu is a notable and flourishing photographer who has proven that the art of photography isn’t a child’s play. She is also the CEO of La' Royal Studios where she do not only provide professional photography but also render make-up services as well as event management for individuals and corporate organizations.

BROADWAYZ: Can you tell us about your background? What was growing up like?
LA' ROYAL STUDIOS:  Am the 4th child out of 5 children. Growing up for me was a little fun though it has no photography highlight or hint in it, I just noticed I love indulging in little things that's gonna keep me busy also put some change in my pocket... My mum recently reminded me of how I used to buy walnut to sell for the kids around my vicinity.

She also said and I quote;
"you used to have this safe where you keep money, how you always want to fill it up anytime you noticed there's no more money in it, you always look for something to sell"
I just laughed at those memories but I think it as better sharpened the kind of person I am today.
BROADWAYZ: How did your background impact all you are doing today?
Lara Tiamiyu
LA’ ROYAL STUDIOS: Looking back, I noticed am a person that want to give services to people, I want to beautify them in one way or the other because I know how to make beautiful hairdo when I was little, how I will have people waiting for me to get back from secondary school to make their hair, Saturdays and Sundays are usually busy for me, simply put have started beautifying and making money since I was little but didn’t know how to properly save or multiply them. I totally stopped all this activities when I got admitted into the university because I didn’t want any distractions from my studies.
BROADWAYZ: How long have you been into photography?
LA ROYAL STUDIOS : Generally for five years but professionally for two years. I started training with Elo photos located at ikeja managed by Seun Akisanmi who became my 1st mentor but I presently run my own stuff and I have met great people along the line like Legend, Leke Adenuga etc
BROADWAYZ: In details, can you tell us what led you into photography? Why Photography?
LA’ ROYAL STUDIOS: My love for lenses was the 1st thing that attracted me to photography, used to trip and get fascinated by a photographer back then in the University, never knew why I kept going back to that guys spot to always take a look at his camera particularly his lens, the beauty it adds to the background by giving it depth when staring at the picture after he did print them but later knew it was a 70-200mm lens that work the wonders... My love for light is also one soft spot I have for photography and I can’t skip my love for moments, freezing moments, capturing moments etc the glowing laughter or smiles on people’s face when they see that moments you captured of them that on a normal day they won’t have noticed it or remembered. I call them “unforgettable freezing moments”.
BROADWAYZ: What are the services you render?
LA ROYAL STUDIOS: Corporate, fashion, Portraits, Lifestyle, weddings and Makeup.
BROADWAYZ: Is there any notable jobs or works done?
LA ROYAL STUDIOS: I’m currently the official photographer for British Council Nigeria and I’ve worked with TOTAL, UBA, Tush Magazine, Fashion Collection, Oge Okoye, Tiwa Savage, Skales etc.
BROADWAYZ: What's your source of inspiration as a photographer?
LA ROYAL STUDIOS: The beautiful creations of God. Most things He created can’t be replicated by humans. Also, the everyday activities of humans,
what they do, their feelings, their emotions; their everyday struggles for survival, down to the least neglected person on the street.
BROADWAYZ: What do you set out to achieve with each shot?
LA ROYAL STUDIOS: The expressions of what people feel deep inside of them which I’m able to interpret in one way or the other through photographs. It also has a lot to do about my own feelings because in one way or the other they reflect in the images.
BROADWAYZ: How could photographer achieve creativity with pictures?
LA ROYAL STUDIOS: They can do so by working with different environments for each session, view with 'the Photographer’s Eye’, playing around with composition, lighting, depths etc. In this case, the object/target should be of great help to the photographer, they should be relax, calm and be flexible when directed for a pose because they also help the photographer achieve his/her perfect images.
BROADWAYZ: How do one measure creativity in pictures?
LA ROYAL STUDIOS: The use of lighting, composition, depths, expressions, attitude, the ‘unfaked’ expression by the object/target, the environment etc.

BROADWAYZ: What have been your best moment and lowest point in this profession?

LA’ ROYAL STUDIOS: I’m yet to have a greatest moment because I see every experience as a stepping stone to learn more for greater heights... My worst moment though was 3yrs ago when a guy admired me on field and his lady friend said & I quote “you going to ask a photographer out”; Like he was in sane to have said that, She made it look like photography is the worst profession one can go into and particularly as a female... I felt bad that day but also sorry for her at the same time because nothing is driving her yet, I meant she lacked “PASSION” inside of her. Nevertheless, her words made me stronger.
BROADWAYZ: Based on experience, I know you faced some challenges, can you highlight some of them and how you overcame them?
LA’ ROYAL STUDIOS: It took me a long time to raise money for equipments which was quite challenging but I pulled through because it gave me more strength and always remind me that there are better days ahead. The most challenging period is when am already tired before I get to an event because I have to travel miles to borrow an equipment from a colleague that decides to release it on the same day I’m shooting the event, this period to me was not funny... A photographer without equipments or his gear is no photographer at all... You get what I mean?

BROADWAYZ: As a Pro Photographer, what will it take upcoming photographer to get to your stage?

LA’ ROYAL STUDIOS: It will take a whole lot like great determination, self discipline, focused mind, understanding what u want, humbled spirit and mind to always want to learn but most importantly know and believe in God.
BROADWAYZ: How does it feel being an inspiration to so many people now?
LA’ ROYAL STUDIOS: It feels a little fulfilling, but not totally fulfilled because there’s still more God wants to teach people through me and anyone else that allows Him.

BROADWAYZ: What is/are the most important lesson(s) you’ve ever learnt in life?
LA’ ROYAL STUDIOS: Hmmm, things I’ve never imagined I could be or become... It taught me to be humble, to respect people no matter what, never look down on anyone because you don’t know who your next client is, to be patient, to be honest at some difficult times, to still believe people but trust only in God.

BROADWAYZ: Any advice for someone reading this?
LA’ ROYAL STUDIO: Have a mentor that has gotten to where you wanna go, should be focus and strongly believe in yourself and know what God’s purpose for your life is, but above all have passion and character in the line of business u have chosen.

BROADWAYZ: Someone out there may be reading and feel like been mentored by you, any opportunity for that? If yes, can we share your contact details here and now?
